The pound sterling rate in South African rand tells you what a British pound is worth in local currency on the day the rate was published. People check it when they study, work or send money to or from the United Kingdom, and when they need to turn a rand amount into pounds or the other way round.
Where the rate comes from
The GBP figure is taken from the reference source (Frankfurter), not from the central bank. It carries the date of its own rate, , so you can see how fresh it is. Rates are published once on working days, not continuously.
